Update: April 10 - Nationals Division 1AA

SSU WVB Blue Team concluded the 2011 season in the NCVF Division 1AA Silver Bracket. Going 2-1 their first day to finish 2nd in their pool, they went to their first challenge match Friday morning earning themselves a spot in the top two divisions of the NCVF Division 1AA grouping. They finished the day 1-2 with an early morning match on Saturday scheduled against UNC-Chapel Hill. After winning game one on Saturday, they found themselves playing a newly energized UNC team that fought hard to move on to the next round of playoffs. In game 3 the battle waged back and forth with UNC finally winning the close match to knock SSU out of bracket play.

SSU will be looking to take two steps forward at the next years NCVF National Tournament with only two players graduating and an older more experienced team ready with a chip on their shoulder!

The SSU Blue Team went to Vegas and fought their way to the championship game in the Silver Bracket.
Day 1 started by pushing #5 seed UCSB 3 sets with a 27-25 loss, 25-20 win and a 15-9 loss. Then lost to the Gold Division runner-up University of Colorado 28-26 and 25-23. They finished the day with a solid 2 set win over CSU San Marcos.
Day 2 the Blue Team continued their strong play beating UC Davis-B in a quick 2 sets 25-16, 25-10. They then took on the top ranked B team- Cal Poly-B in the first set 25-8, taking what turned into a solid match in a difficult 3rd set 17-15. Oregon-B was the next opponent the blue team took down, another 2 set win 25-23 and 25-21. They finished the last match against University of Arizona with a 25-23 loss in the first set an 25-20 loss in the second.
Afterthoughts: Through the tournament there were ups and downs, but a new-found knowledge of closing out and winning close games was discovered as well as taking control and beating teams decisively.
